Just a quick recap of my pregnancy...
I had a pretty smooth pregnancy up until my 26th week. I had a few scares in the beginning but I think I was more of a worry wart than anything. At one of my doctor’s appointments I had gained like 12 lbs in a few weeks and the nurse practitioner made me feel terrible about it :( I am 5’7 and weighed 123 lbs when I got pregnant so I thought it was a good thing I had gained that weight! I love food already, apparently I just have a very high metabolism. While I was pregnant my love for food grew even more (as expected) and I wanted to eat everything. Mostly sweets, and I did not like sweets much before getting pregnant. Even though they say if you crave sweets you are having a girl, I just knew I was having a boy from the beginning. We found out at 15 ½ weeks that our suspicions were true. We got to video chat with my family while they did the ultrasound. That was so special to me because they didn’t get to be there through anything else. It was hard going through my first pregnancy without my family. I was a very emotional pregnant lady at times!
My husband and I drove to Las Vegas when we got married. We did a lot of walking and the drive was 5 hours so for a 25 ½ week pregnant lady it got a little uncomfortable. I started having small contractions but they were frequent. It was the week after we got back and I was getting uncomfortable with them so I went to the hospital. They monitored and saw nothing. It kept happening and I went back, nothing. They told me I must be having Braxton Hicks contractions and to be sure I am drinking plenty of water, which I already did. I kept having the pains but since they told me they were just Braxton Hicks I kept going about my business and working.
After I got married and my insurance changed I switched doctors because the office I was having to go to was terrible!! I loved my new Doctor! If you are in the Temecula, CA area and need a good OB/GYN I will highly recommend the Doctor I went to. Most people would stress about changing doctors so late in their pregnancy but I was ecstatic!! 2 weeks after the week we got back I got my new insurance and made an appointment with my new Doctor. The other place never even sent me for my sugar test so that was the first thing he had me do. After drinking the sugar filled drink that tasted like fruit punch (moms know what I am talking about) I had to sit for an hour and then have my blood drawn. I sat there for 30 minutes and then turned to my husband and said “I am going to pass out.” There I went. I was sitting in the chair and managed to get myself to the floor. The lab had to call an ambulance even though the hospital was just across the street. My blood pressure was super low (not out of the ordinary for me) but my blood sugar was good. I barely even remember my first ever ambulance ride! (and hopefully my last) They took me over to the hospital where I was admitted into labor and delivery and hooked up to all of the monitors. After being there for an hour and drinking lots of water I started feeling normal again. Oh, and eating. Eating definitely helped :) The nurse came in and asked if I knew that I was having contractions?! Ugh! I knew it!!! I told her that I thought I was but the hospital I was previously going to told me I was not. They could not let me leave there until they got the contractions under control. I was given a few shots and they stopped. We were cleared to go home! Later that evening I started having contractions again and they were frequent and lasting over a minute so we had to go back to the hospital. I again got shots, and pills this time, because they were having a hard time keeping them under control. This lasted the rest of my pregnancy and I had to take pills about every other day to keep my contractions under control and stay out of the hospital. Later that week I was given steroid shots and put on bedrest just in case, but I carried to 37 weeks 5 days and gave birth to a healthy baby boy :)
My parents and 2 of my 3 siblings did get to come out for a week and visit at the end of my pregnancy, but they just barely missed the delivery… by 12 hours!!! More on that later.
